“There has been heavy snowfall in the area, up to three feet,” police official Ganesh Rai said, as cited by the AFP news agency.
“Among the dead are two Polish trekkers and one Israeli. A Nepali was also buried by the snow.”
According to police, 152 trekkers are still untraced in the region, owing to problems with the phone network.
However, rescue teams hope to locate them later on Wednesday.
October is a highly popular month for trekking in the region, but Cyclone Hudhud, which struck India's eastern coast over the weekend, has upset weather conditions. (nh)
