Knesset to adopt anti 'Polish death camp' resolution

The Israeli parliament is expected to adopt a special resolution condemning the use of the term "Polish death camps" when describing German Nazi camps in WWII occupied Poland.

Israel plans to pass the resolution at a special session of the parliament - or Knesset - to be held in Krakow on January 27 in celebration of the 69th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the TVN24 broadcaster reports.
Sixty members of the Knesset, led by chairman of the parliament Yuli Edelstein, will call on world media to stop using the term "Polish death camp" when describing Auschwitz or other German Nazi camps.
The resolution will also call on media to use the term "German Nazi camps located on Polish territory."
Poland's foreign ministry has supported a campaign by the US-based Kosciusko Foundation to stamp out the use of the offensive term in US media and elsewhere.
In May 2012, President Barack Obama referred to "a Polish death camp" while posthumously awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Jan Karski.
After complaints by the Polish foreign ministry a representative of the Obama administration said the President "misspoke" and "was referring to Nazi death camps in German-occupied Poland." (pg)
