“My husband is Polish, my children are Polish, it’s high time I applied for Polish citizenship,” she tells the Super Express tabloid.
Anne Applebaum – or Mrs Sikorska – can now take part in Polish elections and also run for office in both Polish and European parliaments.
The US-born journalist, author of the award-winning Gulag: A History (2003) and The Crushing of Eastern Europe 1944–56, published last year, can also now travel within the European Union without a passport.
The journalist has two sons with Radek Sikorski and lives in Warsaw and Bydgoszcz. (pg/mk)
