The “Twiplomacy 2013” ranking, which was carried out by communications firm Burson-Martsteller, has found that two-thirds (68%) of world leaders have made mutual connections with their peers via Twitter.
Burson-Martsteller states that Twitter has become “a formidable communication tool” in today's world.
Poland's foreign ministry, which is headed by Radoslaw Sikorski, was only surpassed in terms of mutual connections by Sikorski's Swedish counterpart Carol Bildt and the EU's External Action corps.
In Europe alone, the most chatty leader was Bildt once again, but Polish prime minister Donald Tusk came in second.
Meanwhile, the Twitter site of Poland's embassy was hacked on Wednesday morning, with an advert appearing encouraging users to lose weight.
Ministry spokesman Marcin Bosacki told Polish Radio that this was the first incident of its kind across the 130 sites belonging to the ministry.
