Count Plater took part in the doomed 1863 January Uprising against occupying Russians.
President Komorowski said that Count Plater's later execution by the Russians established “a feeling of the need to build a Polish-Latvian alliance in 1920 [during the Polish-Soviet war] and throughout the interwar period".
On Sunday morning, President Komorowski met with Latvian counterpart Andris Berzinis for talks on energy sector and infrastructure development and the EU's Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Later, President Komorowski attended the signing ceremony of cooperation agreement between Poland’s Malopolskie province and the Latvian Latgalia region and also met with representatives of the Polish minority in Latvia. (ss/pg)
