Five die in Polish bus crash in Belgium

Five people, including two Poles and three Russians, died in an accident involving a Polish bus near Antwerp, northern Belgium, early Sunday morning.

Another five passengers are in serious condition with a further 15 sustaining lighter injuries.

The coach, carrying a large group of Russian teenagers, was on its way from Volgograd to Paris when it ran off the highway and crashed six meters down from a viaduct near the town of Ranst.

Belgian authorities first informed about five casualties from among the 42 people on board the bus. They were said to be three of the Russian youngsters and two Polish drivers.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations has released information that there were 39 Russian citizens participating in the tour, including 31 school pupils. (sss/pg)
